Revival of a Dead Friend
Guild Wars players, today i found a fellow guild wars player who had quit, they played during factions before the release of NF and they werent amazed i was trying to think of things to get them to play again and i got to think, what does guildwars have over other games such as WoW, Everquest, or City of Heros, and well i couldent think of to many then it got me thinking what makes people prefer Guild Wars? So please tell the community why do you prefer Guild Wars over other games

No fees and 7 hero parties.
If that doesnt convince them, then theres absolutely no hope, they just wont be able to like this game. |

I'll also add that it runs great on crappy hardware. I can't compare that against the other games due to ignorance, but I have a feeling it's fairly unique in that regard. If I can play it on my girlfriend's terrible Toshiba laptop from a black friday deal 3 years ago (I can), I consider that a pretty snazzy engine.

You could explain how its not a noob friendly game and only they can make a difference, it takes a good year or 2 to get into properly and its that difficult part that people need to get past.

Here are some points you can possibly use:
-Runs easily and smoothly on any Computer (adjust graphics settings accordingly) -It has a well-developed PvP System, and probably the best battle/user interface -It's F2P -You aren't level grinding; you're not worried about the guy who will rock you off your legs because of being underleveled. -You want to get a few bonuses for GW2, which will knock WoW off it's sturdy, and 20-million-users legs; well that's presuming there isn't some other, secret game in-development that will knock GW2 from it's reigns -City of Heroes/Villains is not a game worth P2P'ing, as the battle system in GW is eons better. -GW is much more fast paced. No having to travel by airship/mount as seen in WoW. Instant-go wherever you want, when you want it system. -There is an actual, fluid storyline. (decent voice-acting) -GW has a SUBSTANTIALLY better soundtrack than all of the mentioned above, BUT, I believe there is a bit of a failure notice when it comes to the actual placing of music in-game. -http://bloogum.net/guildwars/ Visit if you have any form of debates regarding graphics/visual quality. -Dervishes rock (now). |

1) No monthly fees.
2) No need to team up or have a full team because of heroes and henchies and so can play anytime instead of waiting for good players to be online. 3) Can play through all the content solo. 4) Good storylines 5) All about skills, not level. 6) Runs great on laptops and even some netbooks! 7) NO GRINDING! |

GW is skill based, NOT gear based. Games that are gear based have been the biggest turnoff for most MMOs I have played. And, I prefer to be judged by skill, not how much I grind the same thing over and over. Although if your into the grind thing, GW has ample opportunity for that as well. It's just not required to enjoy the game.

There are 1319 skills, of which you can bring 8 yourself, another 7x8 on your heros. (-84 for heros *pve-only*)
Building a team build to effectively work together out of all those skills, getting the most out of all skills used, finding great synergies across different professions and then using that team setup to beat some of the hardest content in game. That is one of the main reasons why I like GW so much. |

I know its easier to balance for Anet in gw2 but so called 'buildwars' is for me a very large part of its charm. |

I haven't played WoW, but to me another strength of Guild Wars is the instancing; no griefing or stealing from players is possible.

I really think that GW is an all things to all people game now.
If you like any kind or magic based rpg game than this should be for you. You can play with or without other players and play against them when you choose to. Play solo if you have a mind to or take your tame animal companion of which there are many, turn it into a pokimon game and collect em all. Build your own team and decide who they are and what skills they use. Follow missions or not its all up to you, and considering the current price of new games this one is a real bargain. only 2 rpg elements are missing you cannot steal from anyone using game skills so thieves are out and you cannot be the bad guy. |

Pretty much. Since he was a factions player I guess introducing the fact he can solo through things if he doesn't like dealing with pugs.

1. I like the graphics. I like the more "realistic" look to the game as opposed to other games such as WoW. (Note: However, I like WoW as a game and would still be playing it if my clan/guild had been on a PvE server. ) 2. I like the control setup and style better than some others (although there are a few things I would like to see changed.). For example, my biggest gripe with some other games is the way you have to actually run up to people to attack them - unlike GW where you can chose a target and your character will run to within range automatically. Overall, I find the control/fighting system much better than most others I've played. (Although I had no troubles with WoW in that regard.) 3. I like the greater configurability of your weapons and armor in GW. In many other games, if you want weapons/armor with particular stats/mods, you are stuck with the particular skin they have. 4. I like that PvP and PvE are separate. Not dipstick "ganking" going on. ---------------- Note - "no monthly fees" is not a factor for me. Also, I'm fairly "burnt out" on GW these days, but I haven't found anything I like better - or at least, anything I like enough to spend the time getting to know .... yet. |

I think we're all going to be amazed by GW 2 when it's here. I can see how someone could get burned out on GW after enough time, though.

For the price I would say get into gw and do what you can to find a good guild a few friends and the hom achievements that can carry through to gw2. Last edited by gremlin; Mar 17, 2011 at 08:40 PM // 20:40.. |

couldn't have said it any better myself. THIS is what i love about guild wars, but GW is dead regardless. i would just tell him/her to wait until GW2, which will reign supreme over every other mmo in existence i guarantee you that. imagine an action mmorpg not developed by some shitty korean company. I'M IN!

@Aleta - NCSoft is a Korean company, but they are not the developer of Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2, they are the publisher. They did develop Aion, which is becoming a very nice game as they keep releasing patches with the content.
On Topic - I play Guild Wars because I haven't found anything I like better. I like the attention ArenaNet pays to the community and I like the community. |
